I need to clean a car. The interior is mostly leather and it is fucking rank. It has that horrible sweat gunk all over it. The steering wheel, the shift knob, the armrest, etc. I managed to get it off the indicator stalk, but only because that’s hard plastic so I could just scrub hard. The question is, how do I get that shit off of leather? I tried using window cleaner and cloth, but that just made it sticky and didn’t actually get anything off. Halp plz.

I use ronsonal lighter fluid to get gunk off of old cameras, it doesn’t damage the leatherette. I’m not sure it’d be safe to use in large enough quantities to clean a whole leather chair though.

I used some other product, and then everyone’s like “y u no use Lexol, dumbass.” I tried it, so far so good, though my seats are hardened with age/neglect.

A few treatments with Lexol conditioner and you should be alright. Or you could just get new leather if you wanted to drive back to Charlotte and come to our shop. $800 and about three days lead time and we could have you in and out in 2 hours. We have patterns for the AP1 and AP2. We’ve done a few S2000s, including this monstrosity.

If its bad, bad, you can use mr. clean magic erasers, dont rub too hard though, and fallow up with leather cleaner right away. this will cut your elbow grease time in half.

What do you think about 240Z seats, I have read some of the leather recover kits are terrible. They are of course originally vinyl and someday I was thinking either recover leather or just get motorsport sport seats.

Magic erasers seem to be able to clean things that nothing else can. They are cheap so worth a shot.

Yep, Lexol is the business for cleaning and restoring leather. Beware though, it leaves the surfaces slippy and slidey.
(I could not figure out how to fix that without removing the Lexol, so I wound up with custom fuzzy seat covers for my car.)

Steam is your friend here. Now, you’re probably thinking, “I don’t own a steam gun”. First lay a terry cloth towel over the seat. Notice I said terry cloth NOT a microfiber (those will melt). Get your clothes iron, and turn it to its hottest setting, with maximum steam. Slowly run it over the towel, allowing the steam to penetrate, and lifting the gunk out of the pores in the leather, and onto the towel. Afterwards you need to follow up with a conditioner cause you’ve just removed all oils from the leather (good and bad).

Any automotive all purpose cleaner diluted for interior use will work if you can't get lexol. I use Chemical Guys APC+ diluted 20:1

Use the cleaner before anything and make sure you wipe off the conditioner when you use it. Think of it like wax for your interior. It’ll be slick but soft and supple, too.

Our Parent Company
makes a full interior kit - door cards, trim, and everything but the dash - for the Z. We ordered one for the sales manager at one of our Nissan dealers and he was satisfied.
